From assessment to finish: the step-by-step journey

Technopaints Editorial·6 min read

Introduction

Most homeowners have never seen a professional repaint from the inside. You know the before and the after — you rarely see what happens in between. This blog walks through the full journey of a Technopaints homeowner project, day by day, so you know what to expect before you book.

Timings below assume a typical two-bedroom interior repaint. Larger homes, exterior work and specialised waterproofing add days but follow the same stages.

Day 0: Enquiry to booked site visit

You submit an enquiry form, WhatsApp us, or call +91 40 2312 5585. A consultant from your nearest Colour Experience Centre calls back within 24 hours to confirm your address, discuss what you are repainting and book a site visit at a time that works for you. Most site visits happen within the same week.

Nothing is paid at this stage. The site visit itself is free of charge, whether or not you decide to go ahead.

Day 1: The site visit

A Technopaints consultant arrives at your home with a shade library, sample cards and a measuring tape. In the visit they:

  • Walk through every room you are planning to repaint.
  • Measure surfaces to work out paint quantity.
  • Check the wall condition — damp, efflorescence, cracks, previous paint type, plaster age.
  • Discuss your colour direction and lifestyle: how each room is used, natural light, furniture that stays.
  • Answer questions about product tiers, warranty, timeline and budget.
  • Most consultants can leave you with an indicative range on price and duration by the end of the visit. The formal quote follows within a day or two.

Day 3 to 5: The written quote

You receive an itemised quote by email or WhatsApp. It shows for each area:

  • Surface preparation scope (cleaning, crack filling, sanding, putty).
  • Primer product and coats.
  • Finish product, tier, shade and number of coats.
  • Applied warranty duration on that surface.
  • Line-item cost with GST.
  • There is no line labelled miscellaneous. If you have questions the consultant walks you through the quote on a call. When you approve, a booking amount confirms your slot.

Day 7 to 10: Colour finalisation

Before the crew arrives, the consultant returns for a colour finalisation visit. Sample patches of your shortlisted shades are applied to actual walls in your home. You see them in daylight, in warm evening light and under your own room lighting before signing off. This is when most homeowners refine their choices — the shade that looked perfect on a card can read differently under LED downlights.

Signed-off shades go to the studio for computerised tinting, so the tins that arrive on site are already the exact colours you approved.

    Day 11: Site setup

The crew arrives with materials, drop sheets, ladders and tools. In the first few hours they:

  • Move furniture to the centre of each room and cover it with sheets.
  • Sheet the floors.
  • Mask off skirting, switches, sockets, window frames and any surface not being painted.
  • Remove or cover fittings that will be in the way.
  • The site supervisor introduces the crew, confirms the day's plan and gives you a whatsapp group to raise anything at any point in the project.

Days 12 to 14: Surface preparation

This is the least visible and most important part of the job. The crew:

  • Scrapes off flaking paint and dust.
  • Fills cracks with the appropriate wall putty.
  • Sands each wall to a smooth even finish.
  • Repairs any damp patches with the specified damp-blok primer if needed.
  • Cleans the surface down before the primer coat.
  • Days can go faster or slower here depending on wall condition. The supervisor keeps you updated.

    Day 15: Primer coat

The matching Technopaints primer is applied to every prepared surface — either wall primer, exterior primer, damp-blok primer or a combination — and left to dry for the recommended interval before recoating. The primer is what makes the finish coat sit uniformly and hold colour over the years.

You walk each room with the supervisor at the end of the day to sign off primer coverage.

Days 16 to 18: First and second finish coats

Two finish coats are applied with brush, roller or spray depending on the surface and the finish tier. A wet edge is maintained through each wall to avoid roller marks. Recoat interval is typically four to six hours in normal conditions, longer in high humidity — always as printed on the tin.

Between coats the supervisor checks film thickness and evenness. If anything reads streaky, it is corrected before the next coat, not after.

Day 19: Touch-ups and handover walkthrough

The crew walks each room with you. Every dent, drip, missed corner and edge gets touched up while the crew is still on site. You do not have to raise the same issue twice — it either gets fixed that day or the crew stays longer.

Once you sign off, the site is cleaned. Sheets and masking come off. Furniture is returned to position. Any leftover paint tins with your shade codes are labelled and left with you for future touch-ups.

    Day 20: Documentation

Within two working days of handover you receive:

  • The applied warranty document, showing each area, product, tier, warranty duration and start date.
  • A care guide with cleaning and maintenance instructions per finish.
  • Batch numbers of every product used on your project, so an exact colour match can be tinted years later if a repair is ever needed.
  • After handover: our after-care commitment

Your warranty covers material and workmanship for the durations printed on the tin. If you spot an issue in year one, year three or year seven, call your Colour Experience Centre. A supervisor visits, assesses, and either arranges a warranty repair or advises on the fix if the cause is outside warranty (accidental damage, water leak from plumbing, etc).

Most homeowner projects finish inside 15 to 20 working days. If yours involves large exterior work, waterproofing, wood or metal finishes it may take longer — but the stages are the same and the timeline is agreed in writing before the crew arrives.

The single thing to remember: nothing is called complete until you walk each room and sign it off yourself.
